This is image 5 in a series of 5 images entitled 'Eyjar / Islands'. When visiting the Icelandic countryside in the years before the turn of the century, it was obvious how individual farms were completely separated in the winter darkness, as "islands" are drawn out by the light of the lighthouses. It was this feeling that the artist decided to document in a systematic way at night, with a long exposure time on sensitive film. The result was a series of 5 images. 4 of them were shown in an installation in the Living Art Museum in Reykjavík in 1996. Now, for this publication, the artist has re-scanned the original films and developed them on a computer. The result is this version of photography.
